Where Comal Inn's summer 2026 bookings came from

By Joshua Downey, GM of Comal Inn · October 1, 2026 · 4 min read

The short answer

Comal Inn took 181 bookings from June through August 2026. Booking.com brought 64 (35.4%), direct brought 58 (32.0%), Expedia 46 (25.4%) and Google 8 (4.4%). Direct held about a third of bookings while Expedia grew fast over the summer.

The summer numbers

These come straight from our reservation system, counted by booking, for our five units in New Braunfels.

Nearly one in three summer guests booked with us directly, with no OTA commission taken.

What shifted since winter

Here's how summer compares with January through April 2026.

ChannelJan to AprJun to Aug
DirectAbout 37%32.0%
Booking.comAbout 36%35.4%
ExpediaAbout 19%25.4%

Direct slipped from nearly four in ten to about a third, and Expedia picked up most of the difference.

What I'm watching

  • Expedia's climb. It went from 3% of bookings in January to 21% by March, then from 6 bookings in June to 25 in August. Three straight months of growth.
  • Google dropping off. Just one Google booking in August.
  • Turning summer OTA guests into direct guests. Every first-timer who found us on an OTA is a chance at a direct booking next time.

How to read your own mix

  1. 01Pull three months of bookings.Export from your reservation system and group by channel.
  2. 02Work out your direct share.Direct bookings divided by total bookings. That one number is worth tracking every month.
  3. 03Put a price on the rest.Multiply OTA revenue by your commission rate. The OTA commission calculator does the math for you.
  4. 04Look for the trend, not the month. One slow month means little. Three months in the same direction is a signal.

Quick answers

What is a good direct booking share for a small property?

There's no single right number. It depends on your market, your season and how long you've been building repeat guests. Track your own share every month and aim to move it, not to hit someone else's benchmark.

Where do I find my channel mix?

Most reservation systems have a bookings report you can group by source or channel. Export a few months and count bookings per channel.

Should I count bookings or revenue?

Both, eventually. Bookings are easiest to start with. Revenue by channel shows where commissions hit hardest.
