HotelTonight: last-minute rooms for small hotels and inns

HotelTonight is a last-minute hotel booking app, owned by Airbnb since 2019. Guests use it to book a room for tonight or the next few days, so it’s a way to fill rooms that are still open close to the date. HotelTonight reviews each property before it can list, and it charges a commission it doesn’t publish.

Who lists on HotelTonight

Hotels, boutique hotels and inns. Only partner properties show in the app, and HotelTonight approves each one.

What it costs

  • Commission on bookings. HotelTonight doesn’t publish the rate, so ask while you apply.
  • HotelTonight may collect and pay some taxes itself. Set up your connected rate so those taxes aren’t charged twice.

Your own website and guest contact

  • Guests pay in full when they book. You get paid by charging a HotelTonight virtual card, on or after check-in and within six months.
  • Bookings can’t be canceled by default, unless your HotelTonight profile says otherwise.
  • Keep a guest card on file for incidentals, since the virtual card only covers the booking.

How it connects

HotelTonight works through your booking software. After approval, you get a hotel ID, connect it, and your HotelTonight market manager helps set rates and the same-day cutoff.

Most booking software also works as a channel manager, so your rates and open dates stay in sync here, on your own website and on every other site you connect. How that works, with Comal Inn's setup.

What I’d do

HotelTonight fits small hotels and inns in towns where travelers often decide late, like weekend getaway spots. It won’t replace your main channels. If your booking software connects, it can sell a room that would otherwise sit empty tonight. Set your same-day cutoff to match your check-in hours.

Questions

Who owns HotelTonight?

Airbnb, which bought it in 2019.

How do I get paid for a HotelTonight booking?

Through a virtual card. Charge it on or after check-in and within six months, or the funds can be lost.

Can a small inn list on HotelTonight?

It can apply. HotelTonight reviews every property before approval, and you need booking software that connects to it.

Can HotelTonight guests cancel?

Not by default. Bookings are non-cancellable unless your HotelTonight profile says otherwise.
